Eurocom Neptune 3D Review

We analyzed Eurocom’s top-of-the-line cellular work station, the Panther 2.0, in our May 2011 problem. That high-end giant assessed more than 15 bodyweight and price in place of $5,000, but it carried a pc Primary i7-980X CPU and a couple of Radeon HD 6970s in CrossFire. This time around we’re taking a look at the business's lighter-weight cellular work station, the Neptune 3D.

While also charged as a high-end desktop-replacement, the Neptune 3D is far more minimal than its beefy big sister. It’s based on a cellular Exotic Link CPU (Intel’s Primary i7-2760QM) and a single cellular GPU (Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 580M). The Neptune 3D is less than nine bodyweight, but its interpreting function is its 17.3-inch, 120Hz, 3D screen.

Eurocom many one couple of Nvidia’s 3D Perspective active-shutter LCD eyeglasses with it, and the emitter is designed into the case. The 1920x1080 LED-backlit section is specifically shiny, no question to cover for the darkening the eyeglasses cause. After we converted it down a bit to assess the screen’s quality, we saw that it created distinct textual content and still pictures, as well as extremely black shades of black. The screen was in the same way amazing in movement, with no noticeable clouding or spider. The flat complete did a great job of decreasing surrounding glare. If you dig 3D, you are going to enjoy the 3D experience the Neptune delivers; for anyone not marketed on 3D, nothing about this notebook computer computer will convince you.

Storage comes by using a 250GB Apple SSD, formulated by a 750GB technical disk travel. The device is also equipped with an visual travel that burns up up Blu-ray press at 6x rate and DVDs at 8x. The chiclet-style important factors are relaxed and sensitive. Lap bodyweight and a two-hour power supply are well within conventional range for high-end game playing laptops.

Aside from the 3D function, the Neptune 3D’s all-around efficiency is the perfect example of conventional. It trounced our getting older zero-point device, but which is exactly what we anticipate from a program managing Exotic Link components. As a game playing notebook computer, the Neptune 3D is in the same way adequate. The GeForce GTX 580 managed all but the most strenuous video games with comparative convenience, and the program provided standard statistics on par with a in the same way clocked Exotic Link pc device.

The real picture here is price. With a price tag just shy of $3,500, we anticipate a bit more hit for our money. The 3D video is awesome, but it’s not enough to rationalize the Neptune 3D’s showy price tag. Eurocom should have overclocked the CPU for even better all-around efficiency, or decreased a second GPU under the cover for quicker game playing.

Still, for anyone looking for a well-constructed pc alternative with a distinct screen, 3D functionality, and powerful all-around efficiency, the Eurocom Neptune 3D will not dissatisfy. But for anyone looking to increase the bar on high-performance cellular game playing, look elsewhere; the Neptune 3D is extremely unremarkable.
